Our Issues

The Better Mississippi Group follows and promotes a large number of issues important to the future of our great state. Among them are the following:

• Education: Nothing is more important to the future of Mississippi than a strong, well-funded and well-staffed public education system, from kindergarten through higher education. We must invest in our children and give them the tools they need to succeed as adults in an ever-changing, increasingly competitive world.

• Justice System: All Mississippians deserve access to a justice system that is fair, honest and accessible. Better Mississippi will promote a justice system that does not favor one individual or group over the other

• Health care: Mississippi residents need and deserve a strong public health system, one that makes sure our most vulnerable citizens – our children and our elderly – are well cared for, don’t fall through the cracks and aren’t forgotten.

• Economic Development: Mississippi must have an effective economic development strategy that would use a strong public education, health care and public safety to attract and keep businesses and industries to our state – and create new jobs and employment opportunities for our residents.

• Taxes: Mississippi should have a equitable tax system that doesn’t unfairly target those people who are least able to afford high tax bills. Any changes to the current tax system should be fully examined and studied before being enacted.
